NISARTAN H

Nisartan-H belongs to the class of anti-hypertensives primarily taken for the treatment of hypertension( high blood pressure). Hypertension or high blood pressure is a life-long chronic condition in which the force exerted by the blood against the artery wall becomes too high. It can lead to the risk of heart diseases, like heart attack and stroke.

Nisartan-H is a combination of Telmisartan( angiotesin II receptor antagonist)and Hydrochlorothiazide( thiazide diuretic or water pill) which help to control blood pressure. It is generally used when one medicine alone is not controlling the blood pressure effectively. Lowering blood pressure helps to reduce your risk of having a heart attack or a stroke in the future. Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker that helps to relax and widen the blood vessels( arteries). Hydrochlothiazide is a diuretic that prevents fluid retention. Together it lowers blood pressure and prevents the risk of stroke, heart attack and oedema ( fluid retention).

Your doctor will advise you how often you must take your tablet based on your medical condition. Do not use potassium or its salt substitutes, unless the doctor has told you.

Benefits of Nisartan-H:

Nisartan-H is a combination of two medicines namely telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide. It is generally used when one medicine alone is not controlling your blood pressure effectively. Telmisartan  works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels( arteries ) making the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. It helps to lower high blood pressure thus reduces the chances future heart attack and stroke. Besides this, it prevents excessive water and electrolytes ( like sodium, potassium, etc.) from the body through urine that can raise high blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually feel any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

Telmisartan is also used to lower the risk of heart attacks or stroke in patients 55 years of age and older who have diabetes or heart problems. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker(ARB). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, telmisartan relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers the blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

Side Effects of Nisartan-H :

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you are worried about them. Common side effects of Nisartan-H are :

• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Sinus inflammation
• Flu- like symptoms
• Upper respiratory tract infection

Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, stop taking Nisartan-H and tell your doctor right away. Besides this, you are unable to urinate. If you have diabetes, do not use Nisartan-H with any medication that contains aliskiren ( a blood pressure medicine). Before taking Nisartan-H tell your doctor if you have ever had liver, kidney failure, glaucoma, high or low levels of magnesium or potassium in your blood, have allergies or asthma, lupus (an autoimmune disease), diabetes, or an allergy to penicillin or sulfa drugs.
