NISARTAN-AM

Telmisartan and Amlodipine is a combination of medicines that may be used alone or with other medicines to treat high blood pressue(hypertension). Hypertension is a medical condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently in the arteries. It is considered an essential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.  High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent stroke, heart attacks and kidney problems. This product contains two medication: telmisartan and amlodipine. Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor  blocker( ARB) and  amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. They both work differently to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow easily. These medications are used together when one drug is not controlling your blood pressure. Your doctor may direct you to start taking the individual medications first, and then switch you to this combination product if it is the best dose combination for you.

Amlodipine is used in the management of hypertension and coronary artery disease in people with either stable angina( where chest pain occurs mostly after physical or emotional stress) or vasospastic angina( where it occurs in cycles) and without heart failure. It can be used as either monotherapy or combination therapy for the management of hypertension or coronary artery disease. Amlodipine can be administered to adults and children 6-17 years of age. Calcium channel blockers including amlodipine, may provide greater protection against stroke than beta blockers. During treatment with   Nisartan-AM your doctor will constantly monitor your kidney functions, blood pressure and blood sugar levels to avoid risk of unwanted side effects. Before taking Nisartan-AM inform your doctor if you have any heart, liver, or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, low blood pressure or are severely dehydrated due to excessive vomiting or diarrhea.

Benefits of Nisartan-AM:

Nisartan-AM is used in treatment of hypertension ( high blood pressure). The combination of telmisartan and amlodipine work to lower the blood pressure but in different ways. Together they help to relax blood vessels and make it easier for your heart to pump around your body. This lowers blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having a heart attack, stroke or kidney problems.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker medication used to treat high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. While not recommended in heart failure, amlodipine may be used if other medications are not sufficient for treating high blood pressure or heart related chest pain.

Temisartan medication is used to treat high blood pressure( hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually find any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

Side Effects of Nisartan-AM:

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you are worried about them. Common side effects of Nisartan-AM are:

• Sleepiness
• Ankle swelling
• Headache
• Flushing( sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk)
• Dizziness
• Tiredness
• Palpitations
• Upset stomach
• Increased potassium level in blood

Do not use amlodipine and telmisartan if you are pregnant, and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. This medicine can harm an unborn baby.

If you have diabetes, do not use amlodipine and telmisartan together with any medicine that contains aliskiren(a blood pressure medicine).
